My name is Kylie Kennelly, otherwise known as the Mandarin Maniac! The mission of my website is simple--to share my passion for Chinese language and culture in a fun, engaging way! So whether you are a fluent Mandarin speaker, a China history buff, or just a curious viewer with a hint of oriental wanderlust, I dedicate this blog to inspiring you. May my musings on the majestic Middle Kingdom spark a bit of Mandarin mania in your own hearts!
My Story
I first discovered Mandarin Chinese at age 14, when my curiosity towards Chinese characters' artistic beauty drew me into taking a beginner's course at my middle school. This seemingly small decision changed the course of my life, and I instantly fell in love.
Fast forward to the summer of 2018, and I had the honor of attending National Taiwan University's International Chinese Language Program (ICLP), which is how the Mandarin Maniac blog was born. While narrating those enchanting experiences for friends and family, I knew in my heart I would return someday. Now here I am!
From August 2019 to January 2020, I studied under the US Department of Defense's Chinese Flagship Program at Nanjing University. When the capstone program was cut short due to COVID-19, I interned online with a managerial consulting firm in Nanjing for six months before applying to graduate school. Today, I am studying for an International Business MBA at National Taiwan University, with the long term goal of entering the consulting industry as an East Asian-US business relations specialist.
